A letter from the Rector, May 11, 2026
May 11, 2026
Dear Wardens, Vestry, and Congregation:
As you all know by now, my time as your Rector will soon come to an end as my last Sunday will be May 24 th . I chose the Day of Pentecost - the birthday of the Church, fully trusting in Holy Spirit’s presence and guidance for the future of St. Matthew’s Church.
From that historical day until now, the Christian Church has continued to grow when the body of Christ gathers for apostolic teaching, fellowship, and worship of our living God, just as this Parish has done for almost 140 years.
For Suiter and me, our lives have been forever changed for good here because together we have witnessed God’s handiwork for more than six years at St. Matthew’s Church. Now Suiter and I have been called to new ministry within our own family, and to discern how The Lord might use us for future service in His Kingdom.
“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” (Eccls. 3:1)
After I leave, I will always value your friendship, but I will no longer function as your pastor. Fortunately, during the search process, there will be an interim priest who will lead Sunday Worship services, make pastoral visits, and plan baptisms, weddings, and funerals, etc.
I want every one of you to trust in the wisdom God has granted our Bishop and the Diocese, in
your Vestry and Wardens, and in your prayers and participation in the search for the next Rector of St. Matthew’s Church.
With love and continued prayers,
Rags +
The Rev. E. Ragland Coxe
